Dr. Edwin Lewis is a Branch Chief in the Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Business Center of USDA in Washington, DC. He serves on the leadership team for the Grants and Agreement Division, which services three USDA Agencies (Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, and Risk Management Agency). His Office oversees policies and procedures related to grants and agreements. They also process approximately $2 billion in awards annually to support U.S. agriculture and natural resources. Prior to joining FPAC, Dr. Lewis spent 10 years of his career as a National Program Leader with USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). In this capacity, he provided leadership for NIFA’s 1890 Land-Grant University programs that support research, teaching, extension and infrastructure development. He also led various educational grant programs and international initiatives, which supported public and land-grant universities. Dr. Lewis also worked 11 years for USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), where he focused on international trade policy and international development initiatives. During his tenure with FAS, he served on an outreach committee to increase the participation on Minority-Serving Institutions in international development initiatives. Prior to joining USDA, Dr. Lewis worked as an Extension Agent and County Office Director for Virginia Cooperative Extension. Dr. Lewis has a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Southern University and A&M College.  He also earned a M.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Extension Education, both from Virginia Tech University. Dr. Lewis lives in the Washington, D.C. area with his wife Dr. Nikkya Lewis and their four children.
